MRM Scaffolding & Maintainance

Project Overview

Project: Mabati Rolling Mills – Mariakani Factory
Location: Mariakani, Kenya
Service: Industrial Scaffolding
Scope: Scaffold erection for overhead crane rail maintenance
Application: Elevated maintenance access and working platforms

We undertook a specialist scaffolding project at Mabati Rolling Mills’ Mariakani factory to facilitate safe and efficient access for the maintenance of an overhead crane rail system.

The project involved the erection of a robust temporary scaffolding structure around the elevated work area, providing maintenance personnel with secure access to sections of the crane rail and associated infrastructure that would otherwise be difficult to reach safely.

Working within an active industrial environment required careful planning, controlled installation, and close attention to access, stability, and worker safety throughout the project.

The Challenge.

Maintenance of overhead crane infrastructure presents several access and safety challenges. The elevated position of the crane rail, surrounding structural elements, and industrial equipment required a carefully designed access solution that could provide sufficient working space while maintaining safe movement around the facility.

The scaffolding solution needed to:

Provide safe access to elevated crane rail components.
Create stable and suitable working platforms for maintenance activities.
Accommodate the existing factory structures and equipment.
Allow maintenance teams to work efficiently at height.
Minimise disruption to activities within the facility.
Maintain appropriate safety controls throughout erection and use.

Our Solution.

Our team erected a purpose-built scaffold structure to provide access to the overhead crane rail maintenance area.

The installation incorporated multiple working levels and access points, allowing maintenance personnel to reach elevated sections of the crane infrastructure while working from stable platforms.

The scaffold arrangement was coordinated around the existing industrial structures, equipment, and operational constraints visible within the work area. Particular attention was given to the positioning of platforms, access routes, bracing, and the overall stability of the temporary structure.

Project Execution

The project was approached in a structured sequence to ensure that the scaffold could be erected safely and efficiently.

1. Site assessment
The work area was assessed to understand the available space, existing structures, access requirements, and potential constraints.

2. Scaffold planning
The required scaffold arrangement was established around the areas requiring maintenance access, taking into consideration working height, platform positioning, access, and stability.

3. Erection
Scaffold components were progressively installed to create the required access structure and working platforms.

4. Access and safety considerations
Access routes and working platforms were arranged to support safe movement and maintenance activities at height.

5. Completion and handover
The completed scaffold structure was prepared for use by the maintenance team, subject to the applicable site inspection and safety requirements.

Safety at Height

Safety is a critical consideration when providing temporary access for industrial maintenance work. Our approach to this project focused on creating a stable and practical working environment for personnel operating at height.

The scaffold installation was carried out with attention to:

Structural stability and appropriate support.
Safe access to elevated working areas.
Secure working platforms.
Proper arrangement of scaffold components.
Separation from surrounding equipment and structures.
Site-specific industrial safety requirements.
Inspection and control of the scaffold before use.
Industrial Scaffolding Expertise

This project demonstrates our ability to deliver scaffolding solutions for demanding industrial environments where conventional access methods may not be suitable.

Industrial maintenance projects often require scaffolding to be adapted around existing buildings, machinery, pipework, structural steelwork, and other permanent installations. Our team works with the conditions on site to provide practical access solutions that support maintenance teams while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

Project Outcome

The completed scaffold provided the required elevated access to facilitate maintenance of the overhead crane rail at the Mariakani factory.

By creating dedicated working platforms around the maintenance area, the project enabled the maintenance team to access elevated components more effectively and provided a controlled temporary access solution for work at height.

Why Proper Scaffolding Matters

The right scaffolding system can make a significant difference to the safety, efficiency, and productivity of maintenance work at height.

A professionally erected scaffold provides more than physical access. It creates a defined working environment where personnel can position themselves, handle tools and materials, and carry out maintenance activities with greater control.

For industrial facilities, the scaffold must also work within the existing environment. This requires experience in planning and erecting structures around complex installations while maintaining stability and appropriate access.
